Kiel Martinez

Kiel Martinez is a Hong Kong artist, and a graduate from Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) with a Higher Diploma in Visual Arts and Culture. Most of his preferred mediums earlier on were based on painting and drawing with acrylic paint, oil paint and charcoal. But lately, he’s been more interested in different type’s mediums such as multi-media, photography, installation and performing art. Other than that, he also has basic experience with programs related to digital illustrations such as Photoshop and Illustrator. He does not want to simply express himself through one medium alone and rather prefers to experiment with different mediums to broaden his skills in art, because he believes that the mind holds too much creativity and knowledge to be limited to one medium.

A lot of his art pieces are about darker topics, tackling issues such as fat shaming, depression, suicide and hypersomnia to name a few. He chooses to use darker themes because he believes the harder and more negative side of life is what helps humans grow, he rather express the difficulties about life rather than the happier side of life because it is more interesting, relatable and human compared to just going on about happy you are.

His future goal is to one day become an art teacher and pass on his skills, knowledge and passion for arts to the next generation, just like how his teachers in high school encouraged and motivated him to start arts in the first place.
