UNCERTAINTY
Emerging Artists Group Show 2018 in Hong Kong
Lydia Lee Yan Yu
Student artist Lee Yan Yu, Lydia is interested in the relationship between people and the city which led her to focus on photography and painting. She believes that expressions and gestures of people are mirrors which reflect the rhythm and development of cities. With the investment in street photography in her art study, she also discovers that there is always a dialogue in between cities and elements composed of social movements and cultures. Among her best-known artworks are those that involve the ‘Labour and Relax’ series, in which she explores the working style and tempo and emotions of the people which echo with the styles of living, working and housing of the Hong Kong people. The ‘moment’ is frozen while the memory continues as she emphasizes. Lydia has a background of studying abroad in England when she was a teenager which enables her to adapt to and embrace different cultures. She greatly considers “art” will be improved when the domain of mind-thoughts is widened and deepened. For her, she considers her belief in God is her personal propellant for her art-creation which is diversified rather than linear. Imagination and inner-power blossom naturally from this central belief.
