Emerging Artists Group Show 2018 in Hong Kong
Reysibel Kyle
Reysibel Kyle, born in the Philippines, is an emerging artist in Hong Kong. She obtained her Higher Diploma degree in Visual Arts & Culture (HKDI) and a Diploma in design. Her practices involve painting, mixed media, installation and moving images, that often resonates with the contemporary social relationships, issues, and personal life experiences.
In her recent work ‘together but alone’ explores the themes of social loneliness, where she created a figurative painting of an individual who feels excluded among her friends. Reysi’s main focus was her use of space by creating tight spaces and splitting the canvas of the isolating person, was her intention to create a sense of disconnection of being ‘together’ and to create an illusion that may seem integrated but evokes a sense of loneliness.
Her earlier work ‘a waste of time’ is a moving image that shows Reysi’s concern over the excessive use of technology, that is taking away quality relationships with people and our surroundings. Her aim was to get the audience to contemplate and reflect upon this issue because she believes that human beings shouldn’t waste too much time on technology.
Reysi will continue to work with themes of disconnected relationships, by discarding traditional methods and experimenting with contemporary elements in her work. She is currently interested in creating illusions through the spatial possibilities of 2D images and hand drawn projections.
